That’s a very good sketch. In the New Year I rejoined an art group and am really enjoying trying to sketch. It’s agony at first but then I really get immersed. I hope you are still doing your course and enjoying it.

I’m late to the party, but I think that’s awfully good. I’m completely awful at shading anything, so maybe I don’t know, but it looks great — and I can tell exactly what it is! Brava!

Anyway, I know and feel your pain, I was there with you a week previously. Its done now and out of the way, and now on to layered landscapes!!

You are such a harsh critic of your own work, it’s not about producing a carbon copy of what you see (or why not just take a photo) but expressing it in 2d form, and you’ve done the deed and really it’s not half as bad as you think it is….I’m a trained artist, I’ve never been very good at drawing but I look at the world through artists eyes….I also know all the drawing cheats too!

I think it’s quite good! Drawing and sketching are things I really wanted to learn to do, as well. I know I’ll never be great at it, but a lot of people have told me that it isn’t difficult to learn to be competent at it. It’s just that the first efforts are so bad that people drop it.

I will eventually need to learn so that my knitting design sketches don’t look like I’ve just let the cat do them.

It’s really good. You should keep going. Try different styles of drawing as well. You’ll find one that fits perfectly. This may be the style. Well done.

Well done for getting going again. I think it looks great. Much better than my effort – which wouldn’t be hard since I haven’t even attempted it yet. I seriously am impressed am terrified of starting this myself.
