as a native and of Bulgarian origin and born and raised in Sofia I envy you. Haven´t visited my relatives for 3 years at least and my granny is gettin´old.
Cake is either “pasta” or “keks” or “pai” in Bulgaria, with the pronounciation close to the german one.
Pasta is the sort of cake with butter, cream, whipped cream, most beautiful for your eyes and most hip- attaching. Keks is the kind of cake in Bulgaria which is cake with dry dough and pai usually is more the aromatic more wet dough cake with fruit of all kind.
Have a great trip, have a try at all turkish- style pastries like Baklawah, tumbuli and so on too - but beware of sugar shock there! ^_^
Wish I was with you to show you around and be your guide and shop till I trop - you will see that Bulgaria is a great country for spendin´ MUCH on food, clothes, shoes and craft supplies. Don´t miss out the market at “Hallite” near central subway station, if you happen to be in Sofia.
Greetings to you in Bulgaria from me in Aruba!!!
hot, sunny Aruba, with pristing white beaches and turquiose sea. We’ve done lots of swimming already!!

Im with you on the knitting mojo thing, me too, thought think it could also be a summer thing.
