Finished Boyfriend Sweater

Posted by Teaandcakes on May 09 2008 | Crafty things

Over the weekend I finished the navy sweater, my first fully completed proper adult sized garment.

I have to say I’m very proud of myself.

I love how it looks from the front:

I’m not quite so mad on the back – I’m not convinced I did it right, but maybe I did. Next time I’ll try the shirt yoke variation. I do like that it looks a little bit different from anything shop bought. In a good way.

So, the details:
Seamless Hybrid by Elizabeth Zimmerman, from Knitting Without Tears
Knit Picks Wool of the Andes in Blue Ink, 13 balls. Lovely woolly wool this.
4mm needles: Knit Picks metal options and then a shorter harmony wood circular for the neck.
Mods: messed with the percentages a bit to knit it to fit properly.

Big thanks have to go to Aileen, for holding my hand and helping me through during her sweater design classes.

Unfortunately I don’t see the sweater getting much wear at all for a while – It’s really warm, and summer is approaching. Sort of. It’s warm anyway. You know, for Ireland.

Now, I have half a cardigan sleeve to finish and then I can cast on for new and exciting projects!

  1. Well done, you!!! There’s a half finished cardigan, two scarves, a half-finished bag (which is to be felted) (Eventually) and a hat here for you to work on now you’ve gotten yours out of the way…

It’s kind of warm for Scotland, too. Or, it was yesterday. And today it’s back to gray. Which is kind of obscurely comforting, somehow. Wouldn’t want to veer too far from the norm…

  9. It’s lovely! I’ve been wondering what a Seamless Hybrid would look like, and now I see yours I want to add it to my List instantly! Only thing is, I once explained to my dearly beloved about the myth of the Curse, and now whenever I offer to knit him a jumper he always says, ‘Let’s not risk it, eh? You can knit me a jumper one day. In the meantime, where’s my hat?’

Hum. Maybe I could knit one for my dad… Anyway, great job! It looks wonderful in that yarn, and the fit looks excellent. Looking forward to seeing your cardigan…

Nice lookin’ sweater even if the back is a bit wonky he better dang well appreciate all the love and work and down right awesomeness in that sweater. I’ve been afearred (I’m in the South, so forgive the vernacular) to do a grown up sweater.

I checked out what some other knitters did for the back and maybe the detailing was to go straight across. Granted, I haven’t read the pattern or knitted one myself but here’s a pick of someone else’s variation:
