Quick question
Just popping in on a rare free 5 minutes to ask for opinions.
Planning holiday knitting. (We leave on Saturday for two weeks, and I’m a bit disorganised. At this point I would usually have everything planned with military precision, but I don’t even have the ferry booking printed out yet. Stiil, you know, the priority is working out what knitting to bring.)
I’m taking along a lace scarf, an easy stockingette rounds and round project, and as I’m almost done with the jaywalkers, some socks.
The yarn is decided:

Trekking Pro Natura from my lovely Tea Swap pal, Kathy
However, I can’t decide on the pattern. Do I want easy? Complicated? I don’t know. I do know that I’d like top-down on dpns.
My options:
Monkey
Pomatomas
Plain simple socks.
Any thoughts?
potatomas!
i was looking at those yesterday, they are great.

I like Monkey’s, a mindless pattern to knit…but I haven’t tried Pomatomas yet! Good Luck!

I think holidays are about relaxing and doing pleasant easy things, so I´d recommend you to just knit a plain simple pair. It will give you enough satisfaction just by having the pair finished before the end of the holidays. I don´t know what you have planned to do and where you go, but I managed only a few rows of a sock in 10 days of active holidays on an island with some places to go every day, even without going to the beach.
Have a nice time!

I like both patterns, however, I did see Pomatomas knit up in a blue/purple colourway and it was simple stunning. Have fun on your holiday…

Okay, just to make it even, I’d say Monkey….! :-)
Actually I think Knitting Neels had done ‘em and I remember thinking they looked really cool. And if Robin says they’re mindless, then that might be good. Mindless but not the roundy roundy stockinette kind. Holidays are not about fretting over a pattern, eh?
Have a lovely time!

Monkeys. With the caveat that they seem to be addictive, so only start knitting them if you’re willing to be a wee bit obsessed with them.

If you have to count whilst balancing the knitting bag upon your lap & simultaneously looking out the window of your train / ferry then counting might be problematic.
Enjoy!

Hmm.. hard to make a decision, because I want to knit both Monkey and Pomomomoto so id advise you to bring 2 balls of yarn and knit one of each! There! Thats decided it for you, hasn’t it ;-)

my vote would be for monkey; a possible easy and entertaining knit. but in support of having a relaxing, no hassle holiday, maybe an optional simple sock pattern could be packed, just in case.

I vote monkeys! Easy to memorise, easy to knit but just complicated enough not to be boring…

I haven’t knit either, so I have no informed opinion to offer, but I do think your blue yarn would fit the sea theme of Pomatomus.

My strong advice is to take a simple plain sock project AND one of the others. Socks don’t take much room and there are times when you want something a bit challenging and there are lots and lots of times when your fingers and brain just want the lovely rhythm of knitting a plain sock. I always have a plain sock project these days. I don’t think it interferes with other projects (much) because you can do it when you’re too tired (or too relaxed) to do the others. Between Monkeys and Pomatomus I’m not sure. I get the impression from other people’s blogs that Monkeys is a bit easier than Pomatomus if that helps. Have a wonderful holiday.

Pomatomus! Lots of fun! Concentration of some degree required. Also an ability to do a yo at the beginning of a needle (if you’re using the dpns)… it stumped me for a bit until I figured it out :D There’s also the entertainment of how the pattern actually migrates… it’s biased… the monkeys are far, far more dull to knit in comparison. Just my humble opinion though :D
