Pomatomus! Lots of fun! Concentration of some degree required. Also an ability to do a yo at the beginning of a needle (if you’re using the dpns)… it stumped me for a bit until I figured it out :D There’s also the entertainment of how the pattern actually migrates… it’s biased… the monkeys are far, far more dull to knit in comparison. Just my humble opinion though :D

My strong advice is to take a simple plain sock project AND one of the others. Socks don’t take much room and there are times when you want something a bit challenging and there are lots and lots of times when your fingers and brain just want the lovely rhythm of knitting a plain sock. I always have a plain sock project these days. I don’t think it interferes with other projects (much) because you can do it when you’re too tired (or too relaxed) to do the others. Between Monkeys and Pomatomus I’m not sure. I get the impression from other people’s blogs that Monkeys is a bit easier than Pomatomus if that helps. Have a wonderful holiday.

I haven’t knit either, so I have no informed opinion to offer, but I do think your blue yarn would fit the sea theme of Pomatomus.

my vote would be for monkey; a possible easy and entertaining knit. but in support of having a relaxing, no hassle holiday, maybe an optional simple sock pattern could be packed, just in case.

Hmm.. hard to make a decision, because I want to knit both Monkey and Pomomomoto so id advise you to bring 2 balls of yarn and knit one of each! There! Thats decided it for you, hasn’t it ;-)

monkeys can be easily memorized. they have my vote.
currently i am trying to cast off enough socks so i can do the german esther socks. wehich are so lovely!

If you have to count whilst balancing the knitting bag upon your lap & simultaneously looking out the window of your train / ferry then counting might be problematic.

Monkeys. With the caveat that they seem to be addictive, so only start knitting them if you’re willing to be a wee bit obsessed with them.
