Things to do before I’m 30

Posted by on May 26 2007 | General Ramblings

Okey-dokey. I now officially have 365 days until I’m 30.

Yep. I’m 29 today. Old or young, depending on your perspective.

I’ve been spoiled rotten as usual. Thank you to my knitting friends – I’m sorry I couldn’t make it along in person last Saturday – you’re very kind and very generous and I love my gifts.

Off to spend the day with friends, an excellent way to spend a birthday.

Now. I think I’ve had a pretty amazing life so far. There’s a whole lot more of it to go that I’m looking forward to. Leaving aside any debates about how stupid countdown lists are and the that idea that there are timelines for some things is quite frankly ridiculous, what should I get done before I reach 30? Anything you like. bring it on.

  2. Happy Birthday! Hope it’s a good one!

What to do before you are 30? Sorry, can’t help you there … I’m 51, and still haven’t done a lot of things, maybe you’ll be luckier. :-)

  3. Hmmm..have you knit an Alice Starmore sweater? That might be a good goal, that is if you like them. Or I think I read you haven’t knit a sweater at all, so maybe just starting by knitting a sweater would be good. Oh hey, if you do that, check out patterns knit from the top-down. I just love them. (knittingpureandsimple.com has a lot) Almost no finishing. Since I don’t really “know” you, I feel a little shy about suggesting anything non-knitting before you’re 30, though.

  8. Okay Isobel, having thrown down the gauntlet, here are my suggestions….!

Knitting—begin that large article of clothing that I know you are thinking about

Education—start a doctoral programme now that the master’s done

Holiday—take a hike around Machu Picchu (and get some cool wool while you’re there)

And finally, take a Starbucks Coffee Tasting Course…oh right, already done! You can tick that one off your list!

Happy birthday wishes (a little late, sorry!)
What to do before 30? Well, I’ve always liked ‘theme years’ or such…maybe decide to learns something new before your next birthday and master it as well as possible – dyeinf, growing orchids, fighting CO2, etc. Or then just decide a little thing to learn for each month, and this time next year you’ll be so much wiser!

  13. Happy birthday!!

Having just turned 30 a couple of months ago, I’d just like to note that 30 is, so far, awesome…but when I turned 29, I felt much older. Strange.
