Gyms are Evil
I’ve started going back to the gym. This state may not last, so I’m trying to make the most of it while I can. Unfortunately this does eat into my knitting time somewhat. I do think I could manage a few sock rows on one of those lying down bicycle things, but I prefer the cross-trainer and treadmill, and I don’t think those go too well with dpns.
(Yes, I am aware that jogging on treadmills is bad for the knees and that it’s much better to run outside. Trust me, I don’t do it enough to do harm, and indoors exercise is better than none at all)
Anyway. Gyms. Evil. Anywhere you can’t knit has to be.
I have an actual finished object to show, but no pictures, so it’ll have to wait. The gym has wiped me out, and I need tea and biscuits, stat.
The Knitter’s Tea Swap matches are due to be sent out today, which is very exciting! I think it’s about time I flashed my tea stash and showed off my WIPS. Tomorrow. After the tea.
I finally have it worked out that if I go to the gym at least two times a week, I can have one whole evening to knit and not do anything else. Admittedly, sometimes it works better than others …
I’m in the KTS too – the last ones have been fun, so I think it will be great!

Gyms are evil … but not nearly evil enough, until you’ve tried something called “spin.” It’s basically stationary cycles with a drill instructor. For an hour. You should try it.
heh heh heh.

Don’t pay him any mind, Tea. You’ll adore spin. Love it. Love the loud rap at 5:30 a.m. and love the drill instructor screeching at you, and love that haggard, coughing-up-a-lung feeling as your heart tries to explode from your chest.
I’d like to see myself bring knitting on the stationery bike, even the recumbent cycles… I can barely walk and chew gum as it is; you’re truly talented.

I find that my knees hurt much MUCH more if I run outside. pavement= no give. treadmill=slightly bouncy with shock absorbers. It still pains me a little bit but nothing at all like a street. And I have spent probably way too much time trying to figure out a way to knit and workout. But there’s that whole sweat thing to worry about in addition to pointy sticks.

Thank you for reminding me that I need to rejoin the gym as well. My only problem is that the gyms here are always crowded. I need to go for weight lifting and I can’t knit while lifting.
Enjoy your tea and biscuits. And I am also anxious to see the matches for the tea swap.

Ouch. You are doing what I’ve been trying to avoid. I wholeheartedly agree that it would be possible to knit on some of the machines. Maybe not the treadmill though- although I heard this morning on the radio on the way in to work (you were probably still snoozing at that stage ;-) )that they are piloting a treadmill type desk for the overweight….can you imagine trying to email someone while on it? And I think MY spelling is bad…

I don’t know – Tricotine seems to get quite a bit done on her stationary bike. See: http://tricotine.typepad.com/weblog/2007/01/i_did_it_again_.html

Hmm…maybe I would actually FINISH a knitting project if I brought one to the gym…of course, I’m usually on the treadmill, machines, or swimming, so perhaps not.
