Mmmmm, brownies and strawberries

Posted by on Aug 14 2006 | Delicious Things

Saturday was spent in the fine company of knitters, namely Cheryl, Sara, Sharon, and Holly. We knitted, we talked, we plotted a little, we laughed, we had fun, and most of all, we ate really, really well. Cheryl made a delicious cheese chowder that I must get the recipe for, Sara made yummy hummous, Sharon brought up some Wexford strawberries which were so sweet and juicy it makes my mouth water just to think of them, and I made brownies.

I’ll pop the recipe for the brownies up in the side bar later on. I made these at 1 o’clock in the morning, so they were a bit rushed, but they came out ok. I used a lot of dark chocolate (green and blacks 70%, Maya Gold and Dark Milk), and I think next time I’ll go back to my older way of making them with dairy milk and white chocolate chunks (but still dark chocolate for the melted bit, it’s the only type for coking). These are quite bitter. Sometimes an intense chocolatey hit is what’s needed though, and I’m looking forward to one when I get home from work with a nice cup of tea.

As to why I was baking at 1 o’clock in the morning: I just was. That I’d promised to make the brownies and it was the night before we were meeting up is sadly not the explanation (don’t feel responsible guys) – If I’d gone to bed right after making them it might have been, but that really doesn’t explain why once I’d made the brownies I went on to make a batch of rock cakes too…

  1. I had brunch in juice on Goerges st on Saturday. Lovely, lovely tasty french toast. Although they served it with maple syrup already poured on, which meant the bread soaked up the syrup by the time I got to the end of the first piece. Would have preferred it on the side so I could drizzle it myself, but otherwise recommended.

  2. Regardless of when they were baked, they were yum! Maybe early hours enhance the flavour?

  5. Juice is the best place in Dublin for brunch. I love the scrambled tofu.
