“I know about you. You’re at it again, aren’t you?”
“At what? Listen lady, I’ve told you before, I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Don’t you take that tone with me young man”
“What tone? For crying out loud, go back inside Mrs Williams. Do you need me to call your daughter?”
“Oh you’d like that wouldn’t you? She’s in on it too. I see the two of you talking about me, plotting things. She wants this house, that’s all, can’t wait to see the back of me.”
“Mrs Williams, I don’t know what you’re talking about. It’s half past eight, I need to go to work. You need to go back inside. You’re not dressed for being outside.”
“Don’t you tell me what I can and can’t wear young man!”
“I’ll ring Elizabeth will I? She’ll come round and make you a nice cup of tea. I have to get to work.”
“Off you go then, off to work, taking my things with you. I’ll call the police!”
“Mrs Williams, I don’t have anything of yours, I told you the other day too. Now, do you need me to call Elizabeth for you?”
“No! I told you, she’s in on it too. Whenever she visits things go missing. She’s trying to poison me too, but I know about it, she won’t get me.”
“Mrs Williams, I’m going to be late. Please go back inside.”
“Give me my letters!”
“I don’t have your letters Mrs Williams.”
“I might be old but I’m not stupid you know. I know what’s going on. I see you at the mailbox.”
“Mrs Williams. I live next door. My mailbox is right next to yours. You see me checking my mailbox. Taking out my letters. Now. I’m late for work. Please go back inside.”
“I’ll catch you soon you know! You can’t get away with this!”
“Mrs Williams, nobody is taking your mail.”
“Somebody is.”

  2. Nice piece Is. Why do I get the feeling this is semi-autobiographical?

I like the last exchange. It’s unexpected. Is it an admission she may be wrong or is she just a mental.

  3. Yeah. I’m a tiny bit worried that it’s looking into my future when I’m the crazy old lady with the cats that thinks everyone’s stealing my post.

  6. Hand in postbox reminds me of “The Addams Family” 70s TV show. Did you ever see it? Maybe it stayed in the US…
